Moorea lagoonside rescue

In November last year  (2017) we spent a few days on Moorea In a lagoonside bungalow at the Intercontinental Hotel. Beautiful.
We were relaxing on the deck one sunny afternoon, when Phil spotted something floating by on the lagoon. At first he thought it was a turtle but a closer look revealed a small, bedraggled, unhappy bird.
So he waded to the rescue.
The baby bird hopped onto his arm and then onto a rock when he reached the shore. And there it sat for a long time, not moving, not even fluffing up its feathers. We worried that it might be in shock, might not survive … until an adult bird showed up, a red-vented bulbul. It fluttered around our little foundling, flew away, came back again and at last the baby flapped its wings and flew up and away, following mum (or possibly dad – male and female bulbuls look much the same to humans and share parenting duties, foraging for insects for example).
A happy ending.
What a relief.
